Credit Cards without a Merchant Account?

If getting a merchant account presents too many difficulties for you, there is an alternative method of accepting credit card payments online. There are many third parties who will handle these transactions for you, with no required expensive equipment and often no setup fees.

The tradeoff comes from the fact the transaction fees are often higher than you would get with a real merchant account. Some services like Paypal will also require customers to be registered with an account before being able to make a purchase. Obviously, this gives you less control over your account than you might like. However, considering that it's free to join, and the fact that millions of online consumers around the globe are already members, Paypal is still a good place to start. Within days, you can be ready to accept payments on your website.

Sign up for PayPal and start accepting credit card payments instantly.

The only verification required for Paypal is a credit card of your own, and a bank account you will be receiving your payments to. They will also do an address verification, but you can start accepting credit card payments beforehand. This is the ideal solution if you have a business that sells products on Ebay.
